"Every new $900,000 summer house in the north woods of Michigan or on the shore of Long Island has so many pipe railings, ramps, hob-tread metal spiral stairways, sheets of industrial plate glass, banks of tungsten- halogen lamps, and white cylindrical shapes, it looks like an insecticide refinery. I once saw the owners of such a place driven to the edge of sensory deprivation by the whiteness & lightness & leanness & cleanness & bareness & spareness of it all. They became desperate for an antidote, such as coziness & color. They tried to bury the obligatory white sofas under Thai-silk throw pillows of every rebellious, iridescent shade of magenta, pink, and tropical green imaginable. But the architect returned, as he always does, like the conscience of a Calvinist, and he lectured them and hectored them and chucked the shimmering little sweet things out."

Indoor-Outdoor Architecture
Rustic Canyon  90272
Clifford Yates, Architect 1953
Warren Wagner, Architect 1991
Designed by original architect Yates for casual, private indoor-outdoor living on the terraced green of a half-acre site elevated above a cul-de-sac. Enhancements of Wagner's W3 Architects include a custom 12 foot long sliding glass door that, literally, unifies house and garden. Other custom innovations include a disappearing wet-bar, a massive, canyon-view kitchen window that doubles as a natural venting device, and a steel front door created by artist Charles Fine. The private master suite with fireplace and patio access leaves the opposite end of the floor plan flexible. Three adjoining rooms may function in various combinations encompassing bedrooms, nursery, study and family room. Completed plan-check drawings for second story addition. Laundry, Carport, Pool, Spa.
